NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office says a Jennings County man, who was walking on State Road 3 near County Road 400S, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Thursday, at around 4:15 a.m.
The pedestrian, identified as Charles Couchman, 78, of North Vernon, was walking north on S.R. 3 when he was struck by a car also traveling north.
The preliminary investigation showed the man had been a passenger in a vehicle that was southbound when it ran out of fuel. Couchman exited the vehicle and began walking north in the northbound lane when he was struck.
The Indiana State Police reconstructed the accident.
