NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Detectives with the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man for a North Vernon robbery.
The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 19 at the Sunoco gas station. At the time it was reported that a white male had entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded cash. After receiving an unspecified amount of money the suspect left.
Early Monday morning, law enforcement received confidential information naming a possible suspect in the robbery. Officers went to an address in Country Squire Lakes and interviewed Nicholas Payne, 19, of North Vernon. During the interview, Payne allegedly admitted to being the suspect and recounted details of the event in the original report.
NVPD says that Payne is facing a preliminary charge of robbery.
