SEYMOUR, Ind. – A Kentucky woman was arrested Wednesday on numerous charges after she fled from a traffic stop on I-65 near Seymour. The pursuit traveled through three counties and lasted over 30 minutes.
At about 12:45 p.m., the Indiana State Police (ISP) was notified that the theft of several items had occurred at the Polo Ralph Lauren Store at Indiana Premium Outlets in Edinburgh. Troopers were notified that the female suspect had driven away southbound on Interstate 65.
ISP located the car on I-65 and a traffic stop was conducted just north of the Seymour exit. The trooper attempted to arrest the suspect, identified as Ta’neasha L. Chappell, 23, of Louisville, but she allegedly pulled away from him and reentered her vehicle. She fled south on I-65 through Jackson, Scott, and Clark Counties with speeds reaching 100 mph.
After colliding with another car, Chappell’s vehicle careened off of the expressway near Clarksville and came to a stop. She then supposedly exited her car and tried to flee on foot but was soon caught after an officer deployed a taser. Two troopers sustained minor injuries during the one-hour pursuit.
According to ISP, various suspected stolen items were found in the vehicle. The suspect was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for medical clearance and was then incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail on several charges related to resisting law enforcement. Chappell will potentially face more charges related to the theft in Bartholomew County.
An hour prior to the chase, ISP stopped another car on I-65 near Seymour after it was reported that the two occupants had also just taken items from the same store. The Edinburgh Police Department responded and arrested Haamiyna T. Kamose, 24, and Da’miya K. Tooley, 23, both of Louisville.
In the two vehicles, a total of over $14,000 in stolen merchandise was allegedly recovered.
