COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police (CPD) and Fire Departments (CFD) are now accepting applications for the 2021 Youth Academy this summer. The Columbus Police and Fire Youth Academy gives students, from ages 8 to 12, the opportunity to spend four days in an educational setting with the city’s public safety personnel.
Students will participate in a number of “hands-on” activities including obstacle courses, physical fitness exercises, defensive tactics, fire safety, and fire prevention. CFD fire trucks will be on hand to inspect. Kids will have a chance to talk with members of the CPD SWAT Team, hostage negotiators, the bomb squad, and more. Police dogs will also be at the academy for demonstrations.
The 2021 Youth Academy, for ages 8 to 12, is scheduled for June 15-18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and is limited to 25 students. Lunch each day and academy t-shirts are provided. The 2021 “Bitty” Academy, for ages 5 to 7, is already filled to capacity and no more applications are being accepted.
