COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) quickly attacked a fire at the Pence Place Apartments Monday morning and prevented the blaze from spreading. Firefighters responded to 543 Pence Ave., at around 5 a.m., after receiving a report of the fire.
Emergency crews found heavy fire pushing from a second-floor bedroom window and knocked down the flames with water before entering the apartment. The ground level was free of smoke and flames but high heat and smoke were encountered on the second floor as firefighters finished extinguishing all hot spots.
The blaze was contained in the second-floor bedroom with heat, smoke, and water damage to other parts of the residence as well. The estimated damages to the apartment are over $25,000.
The occupants, who were out of town at the time of the incident, will be displaced and CFD is assisting the family with emergency shelter needs.
