COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Regional Health (CRH) is participating in the Expanded Access Convalescent Plasma Program, which is designed to provide plasma from donors who have recovered from COVID-19 to critical patients suffering from the disease. Plasma from recovered coronavirus patients contains antibodies that have been shown to help fight COVID-19.
Since participating in the program, CRH has been able to provide convalescent plasma therapy to more than 40 patients, and over half of them have been discharged or continue to improve.
The local hospital began an immediate plea for plasma donors and outreach efforts to identify possible donors and says that Versiti Blood Bank of Indianapolis is now offering a weekly mobile donation unit in Columbus. Donations are available through appointment only.
