GREENWOOD, Ind. – Empower Johnson County is receiving an additional $50,000-per-year federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The award is being given to address underage drinking in Johnson County through the federal Sober Truth On Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act.
The four-year grant allows Empower Johnson County to expand the efforts of its existing federal grant to reach more young people in the county through the expansion of youth coalitions, community awareness activities, and alcohol-free events for youth and families.
The purpose of SAMSHA and the STOP Act grant program is to prevent and reduce alcohol use among children and young adults, ages 12 to 20, in communities throughout the United States.
