COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to Arby’s, on 25th Street, around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. When firefighters arrived, restaurant managers told them a small blaze had been put out by employees.
Restaurant employees reported hearing a popping sound from the grease fryer station and saw an orange glow and small flames on the wall behind it. The workers then disconnected the power to the fryer and pulled it away from the wall. By using a damp towel, the employees were able to smother the flames and extinguish the fire.
Damages to the fryer device are unknown. Arby’s will be closed until the Department of Health can inspect the restaurant. CFD says that the building does have a fire suppression system, but it did not trigger due to the size and location of the fire.
