SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Shelbyville 911 received a call on Wednesday afternoon about a fire in a vacant building in the 800 block of Webster Street.
When firefighters arrived, the blaze was visible with heavy smoke was coming from the building. They said interior floors and walls were collapsing and portions of the roof had caved in. The commander advised crews to assume defensive fire operations or exterior only operations.
Several vehicles and a boat were inside the unburned portion of the structure and they were removed without any damage. The Shelbyville Fire Department said two firefighters were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Shelbyville Police Department is investigating. Detectives were told four juveniles might be involved in the incident. They were contacted and questioned by authorities. The inquiry is ongoing.
