COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus City Council met Tuesday evening and approved the first reading of an amendment to Title X of the city code, which would duplicate a zoning ordinance covering recreational vehicles (RVs) and inoperable or unlicensed parked cars.
City code enforcement coordinator Fred Barnett told the council that he frequently encounters situations where people tell him they will repair wrecked cars that are parked on the street and then they don’t follow through. He says he receives the same broken promises for cars parked on lawns and people living in recreational vehicles parked on lawns or the street. Because such situations are currently just zoning issues and not covered by the municipal code, he cannot involve the police department.
The amendment would also restrict the number of RVs parked at a residence to two.
