SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP) responded to a single-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 65, near Seymour, just before midnight Wednesday. The driver of the semi had apparently experienced a medical issue that led to the accident.
The investigation indicated that Robert O. Bell, 53, of Radcliff, Kentucky, was operating a semi-trailer truck near the 45-mile marker of I-65, in Jackson County. The vehicle left the west side of the highway before coming to stop just off the expressway. Troopers and first responders arrived and began administering CPR to the victim, who was unresponsive in the truck cab. He was transported to Schneck Medical Center where he later died.
Law enforcement learned that Bell was on the phone with someone just prior to the crash and indicated he was suffering from a medical emergency. Evidence from the scene indicated that the crash itself did not appear to be the cause of his death. The vehicle sustained minor damage and no other vehicles were involved. The semi was being operated by FedEx Ground.
