COLUMBUS, Ind. – The National Weather Service (NWS) says conditions will not be ideal for trick-or-treating this evening. A shock to the system is in store to end October and begin November across central Indiana. Wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph, along with falling temperatures and some potential for rain changing to snow, will make for a wet, windy and cold Halloween afternoon and evening.
NWS predicts wind chills will drop down into the 20s by early Thursday evening. Lows late Thursday night into Friday morning are expected to fall into the middle 20s, producing a hard freeze across the area.
Halloween hours in Columbus are from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers says, “Regardless of the weather, our deputies will be patrolling and handing out “treats” to children in costume. Rainy weather will make it even more difficult for motorists to see little ghosts and goblins so please stay alert, slow down, do not drive distracted.”
