COLUMBUS, Ind. – At the quarterly meeting of the Columbus Police Review Board on Thursday evening, Columbus Police Department deputy chief Mike Richardson provided the details surrounding two complaints, stemming from an August arrest of two individuals for breaking into a city residence.
The suspects were attempting to get to a person inside the residence and claim to have been falsely arrested. They have not filed appeals. One deadline for filing an appeal has passed and another will do so in early November. Both suspects are currently awaiting court appearances.
Board members then discussed what might be done to simplify the appeals process and ensure it is not intimidating to those wishing to use it. Ideas included simplifying the complaint form and changing the window for filing an appeal from 15 business days to 30 consecutive days.
