COLUMBUS, Ind. – After receiving a report Thursday evening of a possibly intoxicated driver on U.S. 31, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a North Vernon man on several charges. Officers responded to the 1700 block of N. National Road around 9:40 p.m. regarding a vehicle that was traveling erratically. Law enforcement found the car and made contact with the driver who was identified as Michael W. Holt, 33, of North Vernon.
While speaking Holt, the officers say they noted that he was unable to keep his eyes open and appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant. Police say he failed several field sobriety tests and when he refused to submit to a blood test, they handcuffed him. After searching the suspect and the car, CPD allegedly found a small bag of meth, a glass pipe and a digital scale with drug residue.
He was transported to Columbus Regional Health, where officers applied for and later received a search warrant for a blood draw.
Holt was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
