COLUMBUS, Ind. – Earlier this month, Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers received some criticism after taking a trip to the nation’s capital that was funded by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). Many people claim that FAIR is a group against non-white immigration and some label it a “hate group.”
On Thursday, Myers released a statement that he is going to reimburse FAIR, after hearing concerns from the community. “I was elected to listen to my community and I have heard your concerns. I am reimbursing FAIR for any/all funding that they provided for my portion of the trip to Washington, D. C.,” Myers stated.
Myers maintains he had a successful trip after discussing important issues related to Bartholomew County with federal officials. He was not the only sheriff who took the trip that was paid for by FAIR. There were about 200 sheriffs across the country who took advantage of the opportunity, including others from Indiana.
