COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus City Utilities director Scott Dompke presented the agency’s 2020 financial plan to the Utilities Service Board on Thursday morning. He stressed that using cash on hand when possible and avoiding temporary financing was a priority.
He broke down expenditures into three basic categories. First, the “gotta do’s,” which included providing uninterrupted service to 19,000 customers, bacteria testing, and cyber-security. Testing meters, replacing meters, and employee training were some of his “oughtta do’s.” And the third category, “wanna do’s,” included eliminating septic systems and oversizing developer mains for future needs.
He wants to see the agency be a vital player in the city’s economic development, stating, “I would like us to be responsive to job-creating land use.”
The plan will be presented to the Columbus City Council in October.
