COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop announced on Monday the formation of the City of Columbus Bicentennial Commission. The team will be charged with organizing the commemoration of the City’s bicentennial in 2021 in ways that best fit and honor past and current residents, businesses, guests, and anyone else who has been involved with Columbus.
Honorary Bicentennial Chairs are Jim Henderson, Pam Lienhoop, and Sherry Start. The executive Committee will be chaired by Jim Lienhoop. Appointments to the committee include Jim Roberts of BCSC, Bartholomew County Commissioner Carl Lienhoop, Tyshaun Allen of CAMEO, Cindy Frey of Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, Jim Bickel of CRH, John Burnett of Community Education Coalition, Celeste Yonushonis of The Heritage Fund, Claudia Sanchez-Davila of the Human Rights Commission, Ryan Hou of LHP, and Karen Niverson of Columbus Area Visitors Center.
Diane Doup and Tobi Herron have been selected to co-chair the Bicentennial Steering Committee and will be planning the programming of events, fundraising, special projects, and historical data collection. The City also says that multiple sub-committees will be set up to help with various areas, and we will have many opportunities for residents, neighborhoods, schools, churches, and other organizations to become involved in this historic celebration.
