COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus Police Officers arrested two people on Sunday after determining that an 11 month old child was left alone in a residence that enforcement considered to have poor living conditions.
Around 11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1700 block of Elm Street in regards to a welfare check. Later, officers spoke to Bradly Longsworth, 38, of Columbus who walked up to the property. He advised officers that he resides at the home and the infant child was picked up by a friend and not inside the house.
Police then made contact with the infant’s mother, Sarah Coe, 28, of Columbus who arrived at the residence a short time later. Coe confirmed that the child was actually inside the home, and when officers went inside, they reported deplorable living conditions including an overwhelming oder of animal urine and feces.
Both Coe and Longsworth were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded with a 48 hour hold on a preliminary charge of Neglect of a Dependent, a level six felony.
The Indiana Department of Child Services was also contacted and assisted with the call.
