COLUMBUS, Ind. – At its Tuesday evening meeting, Columbus City Council approved the designation of a portion of Sloan Branch, a creek near Talley and Rocky Ford Roads, as a regulated drain. The purpose of the classification is so the water that ultimately flows into Clifty Creek can be better directed.
The petition for the designation will next be presented to the board of works and, if passed there, will proceed to the drainage board. Over 1,000 area property owners will be notified of the drainage board hearing.
In old business, the council passed several second-reading items, including an amendment to the municipal code’s chapter on animal care and a vacating of half of the east/west alley of the block bounded by Sycamore, Seventh, Chestnut, and Eighth Streets. An ordinance which fixes salaries and wages for public employees and a 2% cost-of-living increase for elected officials were also approved.
