COLUMBUS, Ind. – CPD officers arrested Brett Hamm, 24, of Columbus on several charges after he began causing a disturbance at a Columbus park and later punched a CPD officer Tuesday evening.
Police were dispatched to 9th Street Park in regards to an unconscious person on a park bench. After officers arrived, they along with paramedics rendered aid to the unconscious woman.
While at the park, officers also spoke with Hamm who appeared to be intoxicated. They were able to determine that Hamm provided alcohol to the unconscious woman who was only 20 years old. After Hamm was handcuffed and secured in a patrol car, he was able to get his hands in front of his body. Officers then tried to handcuff Hamm a second time, and he reportedly punched an officer in the face. He was once again restrained, and then taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance. After being discharged from the hospital, he was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, furnishing alcohol to a minor-serious bodily injury, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.
The officer who was punched did not sustain injuries during the incident.
