HOPE, Ind. – Bartholomew County deputies were searching for a suspect involved in a domestic incident on Friday morning, and as a precaution, Flat Rock – Hawcreek schools in Hope were on lockdown. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s office reports that no students or faculty were ever in danger.
The suspect that deputies were searching for is Craig Whittington, 46, who was eventually found after police canine’s were able to track his location. Whittington was found in an attic of a barn owned by his father. According to deputies, Whittington was being taken to be checked out at Columbus Regional Hospital before he is supposed to be taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of domestic battery in the presence of children and strangulation.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s office will release more information as the investigation continues.
