COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress (ASAP) held a meeting Tuesday evening to give the community an update on progress to date.
ASAP board chair Mark Stewart said that the group’s Hub, a resource clearinghouse at 1531 13th St., opened last week and has served its first client. Hub director Nathan Walsh gave a moving account of the Hub receiving that first client.
ASAP executive director Doug Leonard spoke of a short of recovery housing, a need for a workforce strategy, and the lack of a local detox program as current challenges.
Dr. Kevin Terrell, who heads Columbus Regional Health’s Treatment and Support Center, reported on educational efforts as well as the proliferation of treatment programs in the community.
Original executive director Jeff Jones declared that there are unknowns still to be faced as ASAP grows.
Adult Drug Treatment Court judge Kelly Benjamin vowed that ASAP would “put a crater in this crisis.”
