COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Plan Commission met Wednesday morning and forwarded the draft version of changes to the county zoning ordinance to the county commissioners.
The most significant updates were to allow ground-floor accessory dwellings in agriculture districts, to allow accessory structures closer to a road than a house is situated in many types of districts, and to alter standards regarding sign brightness at various times of the day.
State law has driven some of the changes, particularly with regard to cell towers. The commission discussed the fact that the telecommunications industry is progressing quickly and that some regulations may need to be revisited shortly.
Planning Director Jeff Bergman said that the Columbus Plan Commission is shepherding the changes through a parallel process.
