COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sheriff Matt Myers, along with Chris Lane and John Martoccia from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), presented the department’s proposed 2020 budget to Bartholomew County Council on Monday afternoon. The overall proposed budget growth from 2019 is $395,717. Primary drivers of the BCSO forecast include pension and salary increases, the addition of a detective, vests, tasers, water rescue equipment, and other items.
The suggested corrections department expenditures, which is how jail operations are financed is separate from the sheriff’s office budget, calls for an overall increase of $426,425 from 2019. There has been a utility cost increase of $98,400. Salaries would get a three percent raise, with captain and lieutenant positions being transferred to exempt status aligned with a matrix wage structure.
The Bartholomew County Council is holding budget hearings for all departments this week.
