COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is investigating a Wednesday morning accident involving a train and a truck on the north side of Columbus. Around 5 a.m., officers responded to the collision near U.S. 31 and County Road 400N.
The truck driver was identified as Nicholas Hunt, 24, of Columbus, and police say that he told them that as he got closer to the tracks he thought he could hear the train’s horn but did not see a train coming, so he tried to cross the tracks. The train struck the rear passenger side of his vehicle causing significant damage.
CPD says that Hunt was not injured in the crash.
