COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus Police Department (CPD) officer was presented with a letter of commendation on Tuesday at the Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting for helping save the life of a fellow city employee who was choking on a piece of food.
On July 10, officer Brian Voyles was on patrol in the area of State and Pence Streets when he was flagged down by Rudy Zeigler, a Public Works employee. Zeigler told the officer that his co-worker was choking on a piece of food and unable to breathe. In response, Voyles administered the Heimlich maneuver and was able to dislodge the piece of food and get the man breathing again.
CPD Chief Jon Rohde said, “Mr. Zeigler’s quick thinking combined with the life-saving measures administered by officer Voyles were critical to this positive outcome.”
