COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbus Police Department are joining about 230 law-enforcement agencies across Indiana in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over mobilization. Starting in mid-August through Labor Day, police will be working overtime to arrest impaired drivers. That means increased sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols, and saturation patrols are going to be increased.
Driving while intoxicated (DWI) is an arrest that means going to jail and loss of drivers license, and that does not include the cost of potential towing and car repairs, attorney fees, fines, court costs, and other major expenses.
“Any substance that makes you feel different, like legal or illegal drugs and alcohol, can also make you drive different,” said Sheriff Matthew A. Myers. “Designate a sober driver today as officers will be on patrol for impaired drivers.”
Overtime patrols are supported with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds distributed by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
