Franklin, IN-January 30, 2013- We can smell the BBQ already! Discover Downtown Franklin is gearing up for an even better event for 2013. Smoke on the Square will take place on Friday, June 28th 11:00 am-10:00 pm and Saturday, June 29th 11:00 am-9:00 pm in downtown Franklin. This state competition, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, brings professional barbecue teams from all over Indiana and other various states to our city for a chance to be named Grand Champion. The teams will arrive on Friday night during our live concert featuring Electric Impulse Cloggers from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm and The Blue River Band from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm. A free classic car cruise-in will take place on North Main Street. The teams will begin cooking at dawn and will turn their creations in for judging throughout the day on Saturday. We encourage the public to come out and watch the professionals cook while enjoying live music, kids’ activities, and food on the courthouse square. Amateur categories are also available for residents interested. Entry forms are available at www.DiscoverDowntownFranklin.com. Entries and payments must be received by Monday, June 17th. The Artcraft Theatre will be showing a classic film on Friday and Saturday 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Visit www.HistoricArtcraftTheatre.org for more information. Kids’ activities will be available including a bounce house, football throw, giant cornhole, and much more! On Saturday, live entertainment begins at 11:00 am featuring the Franklin Community Band, The Snakehandlers from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm and other performances throughout the day. The Franklin Farmers’ Market will be open on Saturday, June 29th from 8:00 am-11:00 am at its normal location on the corner of Jefferson Street and Jackson Street. The market includes produce, meat, eggs, flowers, jams and jellies, hot pepper sauces, honey, art and much more! Make sure to visit the market just 2 blocks west of the stage. Last year’s competition brought thousands of people and 29 professional teams to downtown Franklin on Friday and Saturday night. This year’s competition will be even bigger with more barbecue and food vendors available for lunch and dinner Friday and Saturday.
