Threads of Our Diversity
“Threads of our Diversity: Oral histories from our LGBTQ community” is a project launched in with five community organizations to help give voice to marginalized and “silenced” Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning community members. A launch event is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2013, 9:30am – 12:30pm, at the Auditorium, Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Avenue, Columbus, Indiana The program includes a keynote speech by Rev. Dr. Stephen Sprinkle, a presentation on hate crimes by local and federal law enforcement officials, a 30 minute Threads of our Diversity DVD screening, and a discussion with participants about what the community can do to make it more welcoming to LGBTQ members.
Snacks will be served. Registration and coffee is at 9:00am. Keynote address begins at 9:30am. The event costs $15 and is open to the public. Scholarships are available. Please register at ColumbusICC.org. It is hoped this event will open up dialogue in the community on the topic of sexual orientation and gender identity and what we can do to make this a more welcoming community for LGBTQ members.
Cash Mob
After a successful event in March, Discover Downtown Franklin will host another Cash Mob on Saturday, May 18th. In case you missed it, a Cash Mob is an event where a group of patrons gather at a locally owned business to make purchases. Which business are we “mobbing”? The chosen business is kept secret until the event date. Participants are expected to bring at least $20 in cash to the courthouse lawn, 5 E. Jefferson St., at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 18th. At that time, the secret location will be revealed and the “mob” will then storm the location ready to spend some cash. The first 20 people to arrive will receive a free reusable bag with a DDF t-shirt inside! Two $25.00 gift cards will be raffled off. Party favors will be available to all participants. Mission Trip Community Concert
North Christian Church of Columbus will be having a Community Concert / hog roast on MAY 18 2013 to raise funds for this year’s mission trip to Kenya. This year’s trip will mark the 4th visit members of North Christian Church will be going to Machakos Kenya, where they have been assisting in building a Multi-Purpose center that will serve as a worship building, Career and Development Center, Daycare, Counseling and offer basis health needs.

Mike Tungett Organ Benefit “Poker Run Ride”
The Mike Tungett Organ Benefit is an event to raise funds and awareness of organ donation – especially liver transplants.
There will be tons of things to do for the whole family: The “Poker Run” Motorcycle Ride, great music from local bands, a cake walk, corn hole tournaments, raffle drawings, an auction, and face painting for the kids!
Registration for the “Poker Run” Motorcycle Ride is 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Kick stands up at 12:30 pm. $15.00 single or $20.00 couple.
All proceeds go to offset medical expenses associated with the liver transplant.
